Traveling back in time is now made possible at the comfort of your home with Google’s latest upgrade to Street View in Google Maps for desktop on 23 April 2014. Vinay Shet, Google Street View Product Manager, said in his blog post that they have gathered historical imagery from past Street View collections dating back to 2007 to create this digital time capsule of the world.

Click on the Clock icon in the upper left-hand portion of a Street View image and move the slider through time to select a thumbnail to see how that same place had changed over the years.

‘This new feature can also serve as a digital timeline of recent history, like the reconstruction after the devastating 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Onagawa, Japan’, said Shet.
